Mental Health Issues & Divorce

Mental Health Issues, Divorce Solutions

A mental illness can strain a marriage to the breaking point, leaving spouses no other option but divorce. If you are facing mental health issues and divorce, the attorneys at DuBois Cary Law Group are here to help. We provide experienced family law representation in an emotionally supportive environment.

Mental Illness and Divorce

Divorce involving mental illness can be a very delicate matter. These cases are rarely heavily litigated, and require a lawyer with sensitivity and compassion. The courts are typically sensitive to this reality and work with divorcing spouses to ensure the needs of both spouses are met, and a contentious legal battle is avoided if possible.

If you are divorcing, and you have a child with a mental health issue, you also face a wide range of legal difficulties. The financial burden of having a child with autism, Down’s syndrome or another mental or cognitive disorder can be enormous. Child custody arrangements and visitation schedules must be fair to both spouses, and always protect the best interests of the child.
