I am a first-generation Chinese immigrant, fluent in both Mandarin-Chinese and Taiwanese. I moved to Seattle as a teenager with my younger sister for better education. I am a proud University of Washington alumni and adore the Pacific Northwest. (Go Huskies!)
In New York City I attended law school and volunteered in a divorce mediation clinic. I had the opportunity to guide low-income married couples through the confusing and strenuous divorce process. I discovered my passion for helping individuals through the twists and turns of balancing high emotions with the legal process. Over and over, I saw unhappy people walk in, make their way through the divorce mediation process, and then leave with a sense of relief and renewed hopefulness. This experience fostered my interest in family law.
Following law school, I had the honor to clerk for a family court judge in New Jersey where proceedings were largely focused on domestic violence and custody issues. As a judicial clerk, I met parties from both sides of the aisle, listened to their stories, and observed what techniques were persuasive to the bench and what techniques were not. I gained a deep respect for the judicial system and observed how things can go wrong without excellent representation.
Ultimately, I decided to return home to Seattle. I feel fortunate to be a part of the DuBois Cary team of top-notch lawyers committed to community and social justice issues. I have always tried to give back where I can in my community. When I was new to New York City, I volunteered at the soup kitchen. During law school, I volunteered as a domestic violence victim’s advocate at the Brooklyn Family Court, using my voice to help domestic violence victims obtain restraining orders against their abusers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when so many renters across the nation are findings themselves displaced due to a sudden loss of employment or reduced income, I started doing pro bono work with the Housing Justice Project.
When not working, I love spending time with my family and friends. I particularly like cooking desserts and all kinds of Asian cuisine, including my signature shrimp and pork dumplings and wontons.
